The Latest from BetterLetter: What’s New in 2026

2026 so far has been a busy year at BetterLetter. We’ve continued to make the platform faster, smarter, and easier to use, with improvements shaped by feedback from the practices using BetterLetter every day.

Our focus so far this year has been on improving the accuracy of our AI-powered processing, reducing manual work, and giving practices greater flexibility and control over how letters are reviewed and managed.

We’ve also got an exciting milestone on the horizon: BetterLetter will be integrating with SystmOne next month, marking an important step towards making correspondence processing more connected and seamless for practices.

Here’s a look at some of the most significant updates we’ve introduced so far this year - as well as a sneak peek at what’s coming next.

Improved Patient Matching

We’ve continued to invest in our AI-powered patient matching capabilities, significantly reducing the need for manual intervention when processing letters.

Over the past three months, patient matching performance has improved by 16%, and we are now consistently achieving a high level of matching accuracy. This improved performance has resulted in a 68% reduction in manual matching.

These ongoing enhancements give us confidence that we can maintain a high level of performance while continuing to improve the speed and reliability of document processing.

A Better View of Related Letters with the New ‘Other Letters’ Tab

This year we introduced a new Other Letters tab, making it easier to access a patient’s wider correspondence while reviewing an individual letter.

The tab sits alongside Annotations and Patient History, bringing a patient’s other letters together in one place. 

We’ve also added indicators to help distinguish between potential duplicate letters and correspondence likely to relate to the same clinical incident. Letters can be opened in a new tab, making side-by-side comparison easier when needed.

By bringing more of a patient’s correspondence into the review process, this update helps users work with greater context and reduce duplication.

More Flexible Approval Controls

We’ve introduced Approval Controls, giving practices more flexibility to tailor the level of AI guidance and approval required during the Review stage.

Admins can choose from three approval profiles - High touch, Risk-based, and Low touch - and assign different settings to users based on their experience and role.

This makes it easier to balance safety and efficiency, ensuring users have the right level of oversight while working with AI suggestions.

Easier Document Handling

We’ve also introduced a range of new tools to make working with letters more straightforward.

Rotate Pages

Users can now rotate individual pages or entire documents directly within BetterLetter during the Preparing or Review stages.

Once changes are confirmed, the document is automatically sent back for AI reprocessing so that BetterLetter can correctly interpret the updated document structure.

This removes the need to use external tools to fix incorrectly oriented scans and helps maintain accuracy throughout the rest of the workflow.

Print and Download

A new Print/Download option is now available across letter views.

Letters open as a PDF in a new browser tab, allowing users to print or download them using standard browser controls.

As downloaded documents may contain sensitive patient information, BetterLetter also provides clear guidance on securely handling and deleting files after use.

More Flexible Medication Information

We’ve added a new Repeat medication status, giving practices greater flexibility when reviewing and managing medication information extracted from correspondence.

This provides a clearer way to represent repeat medications within the BetterLetter workflow and reduces the need for manual adjustments.

Patient Opt-Out Support

BetterLetter now supports patient opt-outs using an NHS number.

When correspondence is received for a patient who has opted out of BetterLetter processing, the letter is returned to the sending practice and the associated data is securely destroyed within BetterLetter.

This gives practices a straightforward way to honour patient preferences while maintaining a secure and compliant correspondence workflow.

More Attractive Pricing for Larger Organisations

We’ve also updated our pricing model for PCNs and GP Federations, making it even more attractive for larger organisations to scale their use of BetterLetter.

The uptake so far has been strong. This year, PCNs alone have processed 362,086 letters through BetterLetter, with 16,151 letters processed in the last seven days alone.

This combination of volume-based pricing and continued improvements to the platform means larger organisations can scale correspondence processing while keeping costs down.

What’s Coming Next?

Next month, BetterLetter will integrate with SystmOne - a major step towards making letter processing more connected and seamless for practices.

We’ll be sharing more information about the SystmOne integration soon, so keep an eye out for further updates and announcements.

We’re also continuing to improve the Letters experience, including document editing directly within BetterLetter and a new overview experience to make managing workloads even easier.
