BetterLetter Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the web application BetterLetter.

This application is run by Dyad Artificial Intelligence Limited. BetterLetter aims to be accessible and usable for all users. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • Complete some actions using keyboard shortcuts
  • View the letter in a larger format

We’ve also made the application text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this application is:

We know some parts of the BetterLetter application are not fully accessible.

  • The application is not screen reader optimised
  • The application is not responsive for smaller screens
  • Application colours and text size cannot be customised or changed by the user in the application
  • There is a limit on how far you can zoom in on the screen before text spills off the screen

Compliance status

The application has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard

The BetterLetter application is not compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. The non-compliances are listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Some images and buttons on our website and application do not have text alternatives or options to customise text size, so people with a screen reader or visual issues cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.1.1. We plan to add alternative text to the website by December 2025 and the application by December 2025.
  • Our content on the application is not responsive for smaller screen sizes or and so people with smaller screens are not able to easily determine the structure of elements without losing information or structure. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.3.1 and 1.3.2. We plan to add responsive elements to handle smaller screen sizes to the application by December 2025
  • We do not programmatically markup our code to identify the purpose of each input or determine the purpose of our content. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.3.5 and 1.3.6. We plan to add markup in our code by December 2025
  • Some of our small text controls in the Quick Code bar & the Patient History tab don’t fully meet WCAG AA contrast requirements for text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.4.3. We plan to change the contrast on this by December 2025.
  • Most of our content elements on our application interface cannot be successfully resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.4.4. We plan to implement a fix for this by December 2025
  • Our content elements do not reflow at a smaller screen size and functionality is lost. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10. We plan to fix this by adding small screen compatibility for smaller screens by December 2025
  • The application is not fully operable through a keyboard as you cannot select some operations that are housed in the flyout or the toolbar via the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.1.1. We plan to add this functionality by December 2025
  • There are keyboard shortcuts within the application. These keyboard shortcuts cannot be remapped to different keys or turned off. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.1.4. We plan to add the ability to disable or remap keyboard shortcuts by December 2025
  • There are some buttons without a set value text. This fails WCAG 2.2. success criteria 2.4.4. We plan to add set value text to these buttons by December 2025
  • Some non-essential pointer events in the application (clicking on a zoom button or a modal close button) are activated on the pointer down-event. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.5.2. We plan to add up reversal to these non-essential events by December 2025
  • Some of our form controls only use ‘placeholder=’...’’ to provide a visible label. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 3.3.2. We plan to add descriptive labels to these form controls by December 2025
  • A majority of our form elements don’t have programmatic associated form labels. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 4.12. We plan to add these programmatic labels by December 2025
  • A majority of our status messages are not programmatically determined to be presented to users via assistive technology. This fails WCAG success criteria 4.1.3. We plan to add these programmatic determinations by December 2025
